Matilda graduated from the ceramics department of Central St Martin's College of Art and Design in 2004, with a degree show piece called Liquid History, which mapped London in a series of tile panels. The maps moved along the River Thames from West to East and moved through history in a series of ancient to modern ceramic techniques that reflected each historical period. The modern age panel, depicting the London's Docklands, used digital print technology and was purchased by the college for its collection.
Since graduation Matilda has used this digital print technique in a series of commissions for the NHS:
2005 South Wing, St. Pancras Hospital, London;
2006-7 Blackett's Group Practice, Darlington, Co. Durham;
2008 Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, Bucks;
2010 Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, London;
2011 Hill Homes, Highgate, London.
These projects all involved historical research of the locations and used archive photographs and maps as a starting point for the work, which was completed using digital print technology.
Unique personal projects have been completed, using the clients own photographs and may be commissioned by contacting the artist directly by email.
Screen printed and hand painted table ware is also produced for London sales twice yearly and may also be ordered by contacting the artist directly. The imagery used mainly comes from travels in Russia but also comes from historical maps and woodcuts.
